CGFX questions:

Q: Does CGFX update work with Picasso96 software?

Q: What about 16-bit CGFX modes?

Q: What about clickBOOM intro animation?

Q: I installed Myst, but when I click on "Enter Myst" it goes to black screen
A: This is AGA version of Myst. Therefore, you must choose an AGA screenmode. If you don't have an AGA Amiga, you should download CGFX file.

Q: What is the recommended resolution for Myst
A: 640 x 480. If you have an AGA with slower CPU, you may want to use 640 x 512 to gain speed, since Productivity mode on AGA Amigas is slow.

Q: Do I have to choose the resolution each time I run Myst?
A: No. Choose it once and Myst will save it to HD.

Q: Myst crashes in observatory, library or garden...
If Myst crashes in observatory chair, library or garden please download the latest SetPatch from Amiga International web site news section. Also, get v1.1 of the code (does not require the latest SetPatch anymore).

Q: Animations sometimes won't play, and I have to switch to WB and back to get through.
Are you running Executive? It is effectively ruining Myst multitasking ability, so disable it.
Or, you may want to set its prefs to:
Type TASK+CHILDTASKS
Name Myst*
Action NOSCHEDULE
Priority ABOVE

Q: Whenever I go to another location music stops for a second.
The combination o slow CPU and slow CD-ROM will cause this to happen.
1. Try adjusting CD-ROM settings to improve speed.
2. Use 8-bit screenmode (CGFX). 3. Treat yourself to 060. :)

Q: IconX on Workbench screen reports it can't find a lot of files
When you run Myst Workbench screen will open up a window that will log all the Myst action including "qt: file not found". Do not panic! This is only the log action, and it's a part of Myst operation. This DOES NOT mean that Myst can not find files at all, it only means that particular file is not located on your HD. Myst will then load it from the CD. There is no need to copy the rest 300 Mb of movie files to your hard drive in order for the message not to appear. A message "!!! can not find ... !!!" would mean that movie or sound couldn't be found on CD either, and would only happen if you were to take the CD out of the drive.

Q: Myst quits when I access certain location (bridge in Mechanical, next to ship in Selenitic)
Solution: You are using Myst v1.0. Get 1.1.
Explanation: If you try to access one location of Mechanical Age's arms or Selenitic hallway in front of the ship Myst will just exit. Chances are you might never see this because it's only two locations when being looked from a certain angle. This is due to the fact that at one point we had to rename some 3,000 files, and those two were wrongly renamed.

Is Myst performance affected by the size of the installation?
Yes it is. But, this is only speed-related. Your Amiga will generally load data from HD much faster than from CD, so you may want to install more than minimum 5Mb. However, if the game crashes or shows any other type of irregular behaviour larger installation should not matter.

Q: After playing Myst for a while music starts to interrupt
We don't have any idea why this happens and we will have to wait for a consultation from AHI author himself. The only workaround at the moment is to quit and restart the game.

Q: Does CGFX update work with Picasso96 software?
CyberGraphX update is exactly what its name suggests - a Myst code for CyberGraphX compatible video boards. For it to work you should have the CyberGraphX software installed (latest version preferred).
However, Villagetronic released the latest version of Picasso96 and they fixed the bug that was causing incompatibility with Myst. Therefore Myst should now fully work with P96, and we'd like to thank Villagetronic for that.
So, if you are a P96 user, get the latest version and enjoy Myst.
Note: we will still be testing Myst under P96, and if there are any additional problems we might have to release a P96 version of the code.

Q: What about 16-bit CGFX modes?
CGFX Myst gives you an option to run it on 8 or 24-bit screen. 8-bit is graphically identical to AGA, while 24-bit displays movies without any dithering. There is no 16-bit CGFX version, and there won't be one. If your video board runs 24-bit modes poorly, please use 8-bit.

Q: What about clickBOOM intro animation?
Myst CD contains clickBOOM intro animation. We opted not to show it on AGA machines due to slow AGA screenmodes. However, we "unlocked" it in CGFX mode. It should work fine on 040/CGFX, while 060 will play it in the actual speed.
